What a refund or chargeback costs you

When a buyer gets the payment back, some networks also charge the vendor a fee. Enter the price and the commission. The table applies each network's published rule to that one sale.

The starting share is the one in the fee calculator. The return or the dispute comes off that share.

Windows and contract wording are in the refund and chargeback rules.

ClickBank return

For a $97.00 sale at 50% commission, on a refund. CopeCart reads that price as euros.

n/a means that fee does not apply to the event you picked. Where a cell reads Not published, that network does not give an amount. From 1.0% to 1.49% ClickBank's published chargeback base is $29, and above 1.5% it is $49. Both tiers also add a margin that is not published as a dollar amount, so the table uses the base. Sellers above a 20% refund rate may also have ClickBank keep its transaction processing margin, which is excluded here, along with sales tax, shipping, currency conversion, and Stripe or PayPal dispute charges on JVZoo's own-processor path.

Worked example: a $97 sale, then CopeCart's €100 dispute

A torn blank receipt, a navy payment card, and three coin stacks sliding off a grey tray

Take the same $97 sale at 50% commission that the fee calculator uses. On ClickBank the vendor's share of that sale is $44.36, and the affiliate's share is $44.36. A refund adds the $1.00 return fee, so the vendor debit is $45.36, and the affiliate commission is revoked.

On a chargeback, with the account's chargeback rate under 1.0%, ClickBank's refund and chargeback article sets the base at $22, so the vendor debit is $66.36. The other two rate bands are the choices in the form.

CopeCart's refund and chargeback article uses a €100 dispute as its example. The day-14 line is 80% of the sale plus 80% of the €30 fee, which is €104. The later line is the remaining 20% of each, €26. Set the price to 100 and the event to a chargeback, and leave the provider fee as it is. The CopeCart row says whose accounts that money leaves.

My take: I would use the ClickBank figure in a forecast, because the help center gives the amount.

JVZoo's row is the share you were going to keep. Digistore24 and BuyGoods do not publish a dispute fee. CopeCart's row is the timetable for the whole deduction, and your piece of it depends on the partner split.

What each network publishes

ClickBank return fee

At $10 or more, price plus shipping, the return fee on an initial sale is $1.00, and under $10 it is $0.50. The form has no shipping field, so it tests the price alone. A return processed on the same calendar date as the sale skips the fee, which is what the checkbox is for.

Payment reports label the per-refund deduction rfnd-0004.

The seller contract is in the ClickBank review.

JVZoo refund period

If you use your own Stripe or PayPal account, the JVZoo FAQ says the revenue arrives after the 30-day refund period. The terms leave the refund wording to each vendor. JVZoo's payout article says a customer refund reverses the affiliate commission automatically. JVZoo payment processing is the path where the FAQ says JVZoo handles chargebacks, refunds and fraud prevention. The JVZoo review follows that hold in more detail.

Digistore24 refund and chargeback handling

The pricing page puts fraud prevention and refund and chargeback management inside the transaction fee. On the $100 sale in that breakdown, $0.58 of the $3.90 fee is the line for that work. That page does not list a standalone price for one refund or one chargeback, so the row has no amount of its own. ClickBank vs Digistore24 compares the two fee structures, and the Digistore24 review covers the rest of the seller terms.

BuyGoods refund policy

The terms allow a buyer to return or replace a product within sixty days of purchase. They refer readers to a separate refund policy and do not name a vendor charge for a refund or a card dispute. The BuyGoods review takes up the rest of what those pages say.

CopeCart's provider fee

The EU help article says the chargeback fee depends on the payment service provider. Replace the figure already in the form with the fee your provider charges. The payout article sets the 14-day and 40-day schedule, and the CopeCart row applies it to the price you entered. EU reseller terms are in the CopeCart review.

Frequently asked questions

How is a refund different from a chargeback in this calculator?
A refund follows the return path, so the return-fee column is the one that can fill in. A chargeback is the bank dispute, so the chargeback column is the one that can fill in. The other column reads n/a.
Does a refund return the network transaction fee?
ClickBank's help describes the seller payout and the affiliate payout being debited, and the return fee being charged. It does not say the original transaction fee is handed back. That row stops at the reversed share plus the return fee, or plus the chargeback base when the event changes.
What is different about a dispute on JVZooPay versus your own processor?
The fee switch changes which platform cut sits inside the reversed share. On your own Stripe or PayPal, the bank's dispute charge is not in the row. On JVZoo payment processing, JVZoo handles the dispute and still prints no separate charge for it.
