Is Hotmart legit for course sellers: fees, payout waits, and pay.hotmart.com

Hotmart pays course sellers on the schedules in its help center. A frozen account stops the transfer.

By Vendor Runbook Editorial Desk. Updated 2026-10-21. Fees taken from the network's own pages on 2026-10-17.

You have a course or another digital product, and you want to know if Hotmart will pay you after a buyer pays. It will, on the withdrawal schedules in its help center, unless the account is frozen or suspended. The company has operated since 2011. A supplement offer aimed at US paid traffic is a different decision. Start with the ranking of affiliate networks for vendors when that is the offer.

The fee on a higher-value US-dollar sale is the figure most course sellers check before they switch to another checkout. The table below comes from Hotmart's fee article. The euro, pound and real rows appear alongside the dollar row.

Is Hotmart legit for course and digital product sellers?

Sellers usually ask two things. Is Hotmart legit? And is Hotmart safe? The homepage is hotmart.com, and the payments policy names the company on the sale. Hotmart BR handles sales in Brazilian reais between parties in Brazil. Hotmart BV covers most other transactions. Hotmart USA covers US dollars when the users are US residents. Tax collection and the invoice depend on which of those three processes the order.

The same policy says Hotmart does not make payments to creators whose accounts are inactive or blocked on the platform. The fee table is public either way. A frozen account is still unpaid.

A buyer who searches for these terms is usually trying to identify a charge on a card. For the person selling the course, the question is whether a balance on screen can be withdrawn.

What is Hotmart?

Hotmart is a platform that connects people who create products, people who want to promote them, and people interested in buying them. That is how the help center describes it. Creators sell digital and physical products. You define the offer. Hotmart processes the payment and supplies the delivery tools, and an affiliate who promotes the offer is paid through the same account.

The homepage's own marketing cites more than 200,000 creators, more than $10 billion in sales, and more than 25 million buyers. Hotmart published those three figures. They count creators. The page does not publish an affiliate total.

It suits a course or info product sold to buyers in Brazil or in several countries, especially when the members area should sit with the checkout. A dated launch built around contest partners is covered in the JVZoo review. A high-ticket course closed partly by phone is covered in the CopeCart review. US and EU tax handling, and the deposit, are covered in the Digistore24 review and on Digistore24's fee page. For an open affiliate marketplace, see the ClickBank review.

Hotmart fees: what you pay per sale

Opening an account and publishing a product cost nothing up front. The fee article says platform fees are charged only when a sale is approved, and that they come off your balance. The pricing page describes the same arrangement: no monthly or annual fee, and a transaction fee on each approved sale.

SaleFee
USD above $159.9% + $1.00
EUR above €159.9% + €1.00
GBP above £159.9% + £1.00
BRL above R$109.9% + R$2.49
Other currencies, over $59.9% + $1.00

Take a $100 sale in US dollars from the dollar row. The percentage in that row comes to $9.90, and the fixed fee in the row brings the platform fee to $10.90. That amount is the platform fee. The same dollar example, and any other price, is on the Hotmart row of the affiliate network fee calculator, beside ClickBank and Digistore24.

Payouts, holds, and the reserve

Money from a credit-card sale in Brazilian reais can be withdrawn starting 30 calendar days after the sale. Sales in other currencies become available after 15 calendar days. PIX and boleto payments in reais become available after 2 days. Hotmart's withdrawal article lists those three holding periods.

A withdrawal in Brazilian reais carries its own fee. The cash-out steps list a minimum of R$2.00 and a fee of R$1.99.

Outside Brazil, eligible creators can opt into a two-business-day schedule. That article says 90% of net revenue is available two business days after the sale, and the other 10% is held for 15 days to cover refunds or chargebacks. The schedule adds a 0.97% processing fee.

In Brazil, optional 2-day and 14-day card schedules pay 90% early and hold the other 10% for 30 days. The advance fee is 3.59% on the two-day schedule and 2.19% on the 14-day schedule.

If chargebacks in a region exceed the 0.9% guideline, Hotmart can hold part of the balance for up to 90 days. The balance article gives 0.9% as the recommended limit for account health. That hold is for chargebacks. A frozen account is separate, and payouts on it stop.

Enter a sale date on the payout timeline to place this schedule beside ClickBank, Digistore24, JVZoo, CopeCart and WarriorPlus.

Is pay.hotmart.com legit?

pay.hotmart.com is Hotmart's checkout host. The checkout parameters article shows links that start with https://pay.hotmart.com/xyz. Sellers add query parameters to choose which payment methods the buyer sees.

A buyer who looks up that host has usually seen it on a receipt, or seen Hotmart on a card statement. The statement article says a bank or card issuer may display the charge using the name Hotmart, even if the purchase was made through a creator's website, advertisement, or sales page. The charge is for a purchase Hotmart processed.

What works

  • You can open an account and publish a product before anyone buys.
  • Course hosting, checkout and affiliate management are in one account.
  • Creators outside Brazil can turn on a faster release for most of each sale.
  • Hotmart's legal page names the company for a sale inside Brazil, a dollar sale between US residents, and every other order.

What to watch

  • Brazilian credit-card sales follow the standard holding period before you can withdraw the funds.
  • Faster schedules withhold part of each sale for refunds and chargebacks.
  • A suspension can leave a balance on screen that does not get paid.
  • Seller reviews on Capterra and Trustpilot describe earnings that never reached the bank.

What a vendor gives up

The standard wait is long for Brazilian card sales, and a faster schedule withholds part of each sale. A freeze on the account stops the transfer. If your buyers are in the US or the EU and you only need checkout plus affiliates, compare Digistore24 and ClickBank before you migrate.

The fee table lists USD, EUR and GBP sales over 15 in each currency at 9.9% plus 1.00, real sales over R$10 at 9.9% plus R$2.49, and cross-currency sales over $5 at 9.9% plus $1.00.

What vendors say about Hotmart

Research: unverified

Wallet holds confuse sellers waiting to cash out

Sellers on Reddit describe a gap between total balance and withdrawable balance while Hotmart holds amounts through guarantee windows. Vendor help states 30-day waits on BRL card sales and optional 10% reserves on faster Brazilian card schedules.

“Part of the total balance is not withdrawable because Hotmart holds funds until the refund window passes.”

Account blocks leave balances stuck: ↓ common complaint

Trustpilot and Reddit sellers report suspended or blocked accounts with money still showing in the wallet. Vendor help lists compliance, spam, and security triggers separately from chargeback reserves up to 90 days.

“Hotmart blocked my account without any reasons, I have money in the account balance but no access to manage it.”

u/[poster] Reddit: Seller account blocked on Hotmart

“My Hotmart account was suspended and approximately €10,000 remains withheld.”

Pay per sale model praised by long term producers: ↑ frequently praised

Capterra producers who stayed on the platform highlight no enrollment fee and fees only on completed sales, matching Hotmart's published pricing model.

“There is no enrollment fee and you pay only if you sell.”

Payout complaints from individual producers: ↓ common complaint

A Capterra producer says earnings never reached their bank despite sales. Holds, verification, or disputes can delay a transfer on a marketplace that collects the buyer's payment.

“I created a membership that earned money but was never paid out.”

Hotmart reviews from sellers

On Capterra, a reviewer who stayed with the pay-when-you-sell model wrote: "There is no enrollment fee and you pay only if you sell."

On Trustpilot, a seller wrote: "My Hotmart account was suspended and approximately €10,000 remains withheld." That report is one person's account of a suspended balance, which is the outcome the policy describes.

A separate Capterra review says: "I created a membership that earned money but was never paid out."

Frequently asked questions

Is Hotmart legit, and is Hotmart safe, for a seller?
The company publishes a help center and a payments policy, and it has operated since 2011. Your balance is a separate question: the policy withholds payment from a creator the platform has frozen or suspended.
What is Hotmart?
A place where a creator lists a digital or physical product, a promoter sends buyers, and Hotmart runs the payment and the delivery. You set the offer. The checkout and the affiliate split live in that same account.
How much does Hotmart charge?
Opening the account is free. After a sale clears, the fee article takes a percentage plus a fixed amount that depends on the currency and the size of the order. Withdrawal costs are a second charge.
When can I withdraw?
Card sales in reais wait longer than sales in other currencies. PIX and boleto in reais clear sooner. Outside Brazil, an optional schedule releases most of the money in two business days and keeps a portion back.
Why does pay.hotmart.com show up on a receipt or a bank statement?
That host is the checkout link. The card line can read Hotmart even when the buyer started on the creator's own page, because Hotmart processed the payment.
Hotmart or ClickBank or Digistore24 for a course?
Pick this account when the members area and the checkout should live together, especially with buyers paying from Brazil. The ClickBank review is the open marketplace. The Digistore24 review is the one for US and EU tax handling.
